TotalWM were very proud finalists at this year's Award For Excellence In Recycling and Waste Management.
This exciting event was attended by some of the TWM management team – as well as five of the hard working staff members chosen at random, to join in on the celebrations.
TotalWM specialises in the recycling and recovery of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, general waste and end of life vehicles (ELVs). In 2021 we made a strategic high-level decision to limit the impact of our activities on the environment and work towards the very challenging aim of reaching net zero 15 years in advance of the government target.
We invested £2.5m on a new, fully electric, state of the art shear. At 1400 tonnes – it’s a bit of a beast – capable of processing in excess of 500t of material per day and is one of only a handful of electric shears operating throughout the UK. The remainder (like our previous item) are diesel fuelled.
Further to this investment we have also transitioned across to a fully electric stationary rotating loading crane from the original diesel powered one operating on site and moved our total forklift fleet across to electric alternatives. It is hoped, when we assess this year’s carbon emissions that our carbon impact will have reduced by over 50% from these high-profile investments.
The Award For Excellence recognised all of the exciting achievements TotalWM have made so far – and our passion for environmental and climate stewardship means there will be more exciting things to come – watch this space!
